New reported OnePlus Nord CE explosion adds to growing concerns about newer OnePlus Nord models
2021 was a bad year for smartphone explosions, with Xiaomi and OnePlus having numerous cases of phones going up in flames spontaneously. That appears to have carried over to the new year, as an owner of what used to be a OnePlus Nord CE has now reported a case of their device exploding.
The owner, Dushyant Giri Goswami, reported on Twitter a few days ago that their six-month-old OnePlus Nord CE went on in flames without any external causes. As with most explosions of this sort, the shared images strongly hint at combustion starting at the phone's battery. Lith-ion batteries are extremely volatile, so that isn't surprising.
This case comes after numerous reports of OnePlus Nord 2 units going up in flames. Like the others as well, this happened in India. Unlike some other incidents, though, it appears OnePlus is handling it generously. The owner of the phone has announced that the company has offered a replacement unit, which would be a big improvement on OnePlus's prior battles with that one owner of an exploded OnePlus Nord 2.
