Possible Xiaomi Mi Pad 5 design photographed in leaked factory image
Official renders of the Mi Pad 5 have not leaked yet, but Xiaomi is thought to be in the final stages of developing up to three new tablets under that name. In May, XDA Developers revealed that Xiaomi had codenamed three devices 'nabu', 'enuma' and 'elish', all tablets.
More recently, the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) published a listing for a Xiaomi tablet with the model number 21051182G, indicating that the company plans to sell new tablets outside of China, too. Additionally, Xiaomi submitted another tablet to the Ministry for Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) with the model number 2105K81C, possibly a China-only version of the 21051182G.
Now, a photo showing what Xiaomi Adictos claims are Mi Pad 5 chassis has leaked online. While the squircle-shaped camera housing is consistent with previous leaks, we have no way of verifying the image. Hence, we could be looking at a different tablet here. However, the presence of apertures for pogo pins on the side of the chassis confirms that we are not looking at an iPad Pro.
It seems that these are aluminium chassis too, which would fit with XDA Developers' claims that Xiaomi would target the high-end tablet market with the Mi Pad 5 series. Allegedly, Xiaomi plans to release the Mi Pad 5 series this summer with Snapdragon 800 series SoCs. If that is the case, then we would expect more Mi Pad 5-related leaks to arrive within the next few weeks.
