The Medion Erazer Beast 16 X1 Ultimate is easily one of the most powerful gaming laptops we’ve tested, with sublime performance in games, fantastic endurance and a solid set of inputs. Its display is a little baffling though, lacking the punch we’d expect from a Mini LED screen, plus all of this laptop’s power comes with a hefty price tag. With this in mind, its more powerful internals and stronger battery life and port selection make it a better all-rounder than the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D, while also coming with a more feature-rich screen and at a cheaper price. The Medion Erazer Beast 16 X1 Ultimate is a powerhouse of a gaming laptop. It brings together some of the best hardware around, including the RTX 5080 and Core Ultra 9 chip, with generous RAM and storage. But what really sells it is the screen and sound. The mini-LED panel is gorgeous, and everything is so smooth and silky on that 300Hz refresh rate. With some of the loudest sound production I've heard on a laptop, this can happily replace many desktop gaming machines. It's also well-priced right now. Currently selling for around £2,500 in the UK (roughly $3,350), the Beast 16 X1 undercuts similarly spec'ed rivals. For comparison, MSI's Vector 16 with the same RTX 5080 and Core Ultra 9 processor costs about £100 more and lacks the 300Hz Mini LED display, while weighing nearly a kilogram more.

Gamers are routinely guilty of lusting after the very best hardware money can buy, but the Erazer Beast 16 X1 proves that you need to look a little closer at components in order to get the best possible value. This laptop’s RTX 5080 GPU is an excellent performer, with frame rates that aren’t very far short of the far more expensive RTX 5090. Unless you plan on hooking up a 4K monitor, you’ll be gaming at high fps for years to come with one of these on your desk. Medion machines have come a long way under Lenovo’s stewardship. This one may not have the slimmest or most stylish chassis, a truly gamer-grade keyboard or the best screen, but I’m struggling to see any one area where it truly lets the side down. You’ll need to pay a fair bit more if portability is just as important as gaming performance.

Final Thoughts: The Medion Erazer Beast 16 X1 Ultimate (RTX 5090) provides some class-leading gaming performance in a laptop that also benefits from a sublime Mini LED screen and a great port selection, as well as surprisingly solid battery life. All of its potency comes with quite the high cost, though. With this in mind, it is arguably more of a compelling overall package than the Asus ROG Strix Scar 17 X3D for a similar price with stronger battery life, more powerful internals and a better screen. The RTX 5080 version of this laptop is also a fair bit cheaper and only compromises on the GPU. For more options, check out our list of the best gaming laptops we’ve tested.

The Medion Erazer Beast 16 X1 Ultimate is a really solid 16-inch gaming laptop that puts the emphasis on spec. That means a really powerful Nvidia GeForce RTX 5090 GPU and a top processor to match it, which doesn't disappoint. But it does have downsides where portability is concerned. If you're not fussed about that, however, then this Medion is, as its name suggests, an absolute beast.
