The Realme P3x 5G is due for an imminent debut as an Android smartphone with an upgrade to the Dimensity 6400 processor as one of its main claims to a selling point. MediaTek has just revealed how 'new' that silicon is actually going to be - which, compared to its immediate predecessor, is not much.

The Realme P3x 5G now has less than 24 hours until its launch as the world's first Dimensity 6400 smartphone. MediaTek has introduced the same SoC by itself in advance, in a move that calls the magnitude of that bragging right into question.

As it turns out, the 6400's Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.2 and support for UFS 2.2 storage specs remain unchanged compared to those of the 6300. The former also has the same max RAM (LPDDR4X at a speed of 2,133MHz) and even the same Arm Mali-G57 GPU as the latter.

One can expect the P3x to have an FHD+ display with a 120Hz refresh rate at best, as the 6400's max display support specs have not changed in relation to the 6300 either.

In fact, the only thing that sets the newer version apart is that its dual Arm Cortex-A76 cores go at up to 2.5GHz rather than 2.4GHz. Its 6 other Cortex-A55 cores remain at 2.0GHz each.

The OEM does hype the 6400 as having "faster" 5G despite having the same 3.3 gigabit per second (Gb/s) top download rate for its global standalone and non-standalone connectivity as its predecessor, which may or may not be a hint that smartphones powered by the newer silicon just might be more affordable.

We will find out for sure with the debut of the P3x (which seems to be a differently-colored refresh of the 14x that is already available on Amazon.in with the 6300) tomorrow (February 18, 2025).
