The budget-midrange professional laptop will begin shipping on September 10 with 5.7 mm thin bezels, 80 percent screen-to-body ratio, and Intel's latest Comet Lake-U CPU. Initial SKUs will not carry Core i7 options.

With Intel's 10th gen Ice Lake and Comet Lake families now out of the bag, OEMs everywhere will be gearing up to ship their first laptops equipped with the new CPUs in the coming weeks. One of these models will be the 14-inch MSI Modern 14 designed for business users and professionals similar to the 15.6-inch MSI PS63 Modern.

The table below reveals that the Modern 14 will be very similar to the existing 2018 MSI PS42 Prestige and upcoming 2019 Prestige 14 but with slower GeForce MX250 graphics, no 4K UHD option, no Thunderbolt 3, no Wi-Fi 6, and with a slightly thicker profile. Thus, the Modern 14 will cater to users on tighter budgets.

Newegg is already taking pre-orders for the MSI Modern 14 at $750 and $900 without and with the GeForce MX250 GPU, respectively. The Taiwanese company boasted about expanding beyond just gaming laptops at CES 2019 and the Modern 14 is proof of its growing professional lineup. The Modern 14 announcement follows on the footsteps of the Prestige 14 and Prestige 15 10th gen Intel refresh.

After graduating with a B.S. in environmental hydrodynamics from the University of California, I studied reactor physics to become licensed by the U.S. NRC to operate nuclear reactors. There's a striking level of appreciation you gain for everyday consumer electronics after working with modern nuclear reactivity systems astonishingly powered by computers from the 80s. When I'm not managing day-to-day activities and US review articles on Notebookcheck, you can catch me following the eSports scene and the latest gaming news.
