The GF63 is nearly the same size and weight as the GS65 but for hundreds of dollars less. MSI has created an excellent budget gaming system that's also light enough for schoolwork and travel.

And as the tradition goes, we snatched a GF63 10Sx model, which is equipped with the latest Core i7-10750H. Ultimately, it proved to be a very minor upgrade in terms of performance, especially with this particular notebook. Additionally, the thermal performance of the device was not great, similarly to the GF63 8RD, but thankfully, the GTX 1650 Max-Q is far more efficient than its GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q cousin, running 10C cooler in long gaming sessions.

Another day, another interesting device is about to leave our office. We are usually impressed with MSI’s work. However, GF63 8RD got us thinking… At first, we loved it – design, feel in the hand, start up, Dragon center. When you add Whiskey Lake and GTX 1050 Ti Max-Q to the soup, it should result in the perfect budget low profile gaming device. You can easily go in a coffee in order to do some work or student stuff, whithout being considered as the next childish show off. It is really fast and responsive and moreover, you can certainly play some games on it.

There's a lot of stuff to love about the new GF63 8RD - it's got a sleek look with a smooth brushed metal design on the outside and inside. It's lightweight and easy to carry around so it doubles up as a work laptop when you're nt gaming, it's got a great IPS panel with some spot on colours and an immersive bezel-less display. This mixed some some decent performance makes it a great gaming laptop, if only it were more affordable.

The GF63 is a solid laptop that offers excellent performance at a reasonable price. However, its display is underwhelming and gamers who want to play the latest games at high graphics settings will need to spend a bit more on a laptop with a more powerful GPU than a 1050Ti.

MSI GF63 8RC-230CH
At the beginning of this review, I have to admit that I like MSI gaming laptops. The way they are designed, materials used, concept, meaning everything that you see from outside looks great. But as a gamer or if you are planning to be one whether a pro or just for casual, the looks should be the last thing you need to be interested. First of all, you need a good GPU then a good CPU and a good screen. Most gamers are going for TN panels instead of IPS, but that should be a discussion of another series. Anyway, lets get back to our MSI laptop. It is a 15.6 inch laptop and to be honest, pretty light with 1.9 kg. So it will be very easy to carry around. Unfortunately, even if this laptop has a good design and is pretty lightweight, I can't suggest it, no, simply I can't. Here is why. First of all, it comes with a GTX 1050, which I consider to be very mainstream right now and unfortunately became too old to run most of the modern games with good FPS. Then other thing is that it comes with conventional HDD. We are almost done with 2018 and a gaming laptop without SSD? Come on. Yes, the GF series is an entry level series, but still if you are going to spend money on a gaming laptop, at least get something with which you can continue to play for a few years. But on the other hand, if you consider this laptop for different purposes, it, well, maybe workout. Its processor is great. But still with 8 GB of RAM and a slow HDD, all your options are limited. Sure there are other SKUs of this model, which are of course priced differently. My piece of advice for my dearest readers would be to know what your requirements are. If you plan to play games like CS:GO, Dota 2. LoL, Rocket League than it is fine to go models with entry level graphics cards. But if you want to play games like GTA, Tomb Raider or saying shortly where there are too much moving parts and graphics matters, you need a better GPU, something like GTX 1060 and an SSD is a must. As I said, it is pretty hard for me to recommend this laptop to anyone who is willing to play hardcore games. Even for entry-level games, without an SSD installed, I think you should pass. If you don't care about the looks or the material that is used, you can look for alternatives from the Acer Predator or Asus TUF Gaming series. You might end up getting better hardware for the same amount of money. Hands-on article by Ümit Yılmaz GüneşSpecifications

MSI GF63 8RC-457XES
It seems that more and more gaming laptops are emerging on the market these days, from budget gaming laptops and expensive premium ones, gamers are currently spoilt for choices, especially if they have a big budget to work with. To cater to the needs of these gamers, MSI has launched a new 15.6-inch laptop in their gaming range, the MSI GF63 8RC-457XES. MSI decided to equip the new MSI GF63 8RC-457XES with one of the latest eighth generation 6-core processor, the Intel Core i7-8750H. As its description implies, this relatively new processor CPU has six cores and 12 logical cores. The extra cores will allow the CPU to boost its performance by up to 40% when compared to older processors. It also has 9 MB of cache memory, and with Intel’s Turbo Boost technology, it can clock at a frequency of 2.2 GHz to 3.9 GHz. This processor will allow users to do heavy processing tasks like 3D rendering, heavy video and image editing, and run some computational programs. As this was marketed and targeted at the gaming community, the MSI GF63 8RC-457XES comes with an Nvidia GTX 1050 graphics card that has its own built-in 4 GB of GDDR5 RAM. This may not be the best Nvidia card for the professional gamer, but seeing that this is a portable computer and not a desktop, it will be sufficient. Gamers will have no problem running new game titles at medium to high settings. Those who are feeling adventurers may even try it at ultra-high settings. Its matte-finished 1,920 x 1,080 pixels IPS Full HD screen is also a display that gamers will appreciate. Gamers will also like the 512 GB SSD that MSI has included with the new MSI GF63 8RC-457XES. Unlike traditional hard disk drives, this will definitely load and run the games faster. To complement the hardware, the laptop is also equipped with 8 GB of DDR4 RAM, and the user will have the option to upgrade it until the maximum of 32 GB. Connectivity-wise, this laptop has more than enough ports to satisfy most users. It comes with one USB Type-C port, three USB 3.1 ports, one microphone jack, one headphone jack, one HDMI output, one LAN port and a dual-band WiFi plus Bluetooth 5 combo. There is also a web camera for video conferencing or even basic video streaming. Other points that we like about the new MSI GF63 8RC-457XES is the backlit keyboard, the thin bezels on the display, and the purported 7-hours of battery life. Measuring at 21.7 x 359 x 254 mm and weighing about 1.9 kg, MSI’s new gaming laptop is powerful and relatively lightweight enough that it should be one of the laptops that gamers should keep in mind when shopping for a new portable rig. The MSI GF63 8RD is a surprisingly high-performance gaming laptop in a compact and lightweight package. It does fall short in terms of battery and can heat up a bit under intense usage. All in all, it is a laptop that has been focused on hardcore gamers and will definitely leave them impressed.

There’s a lot to love about the MSI GF63 8RD. Perhaps what makes this gaming laptop shine is the way it has been packaged. It can both be used a general purpose laptop and a dedicated gaming machine. The combination of portability, performance, long battery life and classic design, makes the MSI GF63 8RD worth checking out. And that should be seen as an achievement and the credit goes to MSI. All this does come at a cost though, with the MSI GF63 8RD costing a cool Rs 99,990.

When you are buying a regular laptop, you know what you want and chose accordingly a PC that suits your requirements. With a gaming laptop, it's also the same but the affordability factor comes into play. For most gaming laptops under Rs 1 lakh, you will have to put with compromises such as an average display, heavy body or slightly older internals. With the MSI GF63 Thin, these compromises are a lot lesser. You are getting the latest 9th Gen Core i5 processor, a powerful Nvidia GTX 1650 Max-Q graphics card and a great display - all of that packaged in a classy and lightweight body that feels premium. For someone new to gaming, this is more than enough. Even if you want a premium laptop with lots of raw horsepower, the GF63 Thin is practical as an everyday laptop with its lightweight build and decent battery life.

The MSI GF63 Thin is a mixed bag; it’s eminently affordable but has a lot of flaws. At under £700, it’s a great deal for anyone wanting a laptop able to handle the majority of PC games, even if it is on lower quality settings, but the mediocre battery life does mean that players will find themselves tied to a plug socket, and if you’re an audiophile you’re definitely going to need headphones. There are a few flaws in the design too, including a print-screen button you’ll probably hit far more frequently than you want to and sharp edges that can irritate the wrists. Overall, it’s a pretty good machine for the money but serious gamers will want more.

It’s best to think of the MSI GF63 Thin less as a gaming laptop, and more as a good, affordable mainstream laptop that happens to be great for casual gaming. Sure, it doesn’t have the raw performance you’ll find on chunky gaming laptops, but it’s also a lot more practical as a device for work or study. And, with a few compromises here and there – plus some DLSS or FSR magic – you can still enjoy the latest games.

A sensibly-priced gaming laptop that doesn’t feel cheap? Decent 1080p performance without horribly noisy fans? A sturdy chassis with a comfortable, responsive keyboard? Yes, the MSI GF63 Thin has all this and more, making it a fantastic value option despite its unimpressive battery life.

The MSI GF63 Slim for 2023 isa good value low-end gaming laptop that’ll still be playing games in a few years’ time, though they won’t necessarily be the latest ones at ultra settings. It will work well as a general-purpose laptop if that’s what you need, though the screen is disappointing and the speakers flat and lacking at both the top and bottom ends. On the bright side, it’s a good-looking machine that’s powerful enough for everyday use as well as gaming, and it’s also good value for money.

Despite surprisingly good 1080p gaming performance, the MSI GF63 Slim for 2023 is a bundle of compromises. Decide you can live with them, and you’ll get a decent all-round laptop that will last a good few years, though its gaming potential will drop off sharply over time.

At the end of the day, you have to keep in mind that the new GF63 only costs £900 and that low price point earns it a lot of leeway. If like me you tend to have your laptop hooked up to an external keyboard and monitor for lengthy gaming or work sessions the fact that the MSI’s keyboard and display are a bit half-baked won’t be a problem. However, if it is a problem for you and you’re after a more well-rounded gaming laptop, you can look to the mid-range at a device like the £1180 Asus TUF Gaming A15 (2023). But, for £899 you are getting a smart, capable and well-specified laptop with plenty of upgrade options, assuming you are brave enough to remove the base panel, and that looks the part. I don’t think you can seriously ask for more at the price.

Is the MSI Thin GF63 (12V) a true budget gaming laptop? The answer is yes but there are some compromises in the mix which is expected. The build quality is adequate, the lid (that can’t be opened with a single hand) and the top side of the base are made of brushed aluminum. The backlit keyboard is quiet during typing or gaming and has large keycaps. On the other hand, the touchpad is smooth but the unit is moving during usage and it makes loud click sounds – that’s not good. The gaming performance of the machine is normal for the hardware. You can play Assassin’s Creed Valhalla on 1080p with 66FPS on Ultra or Far Cry 6 with maxed-out visual quality with 71FPS – not bad. The notebook that we bought has just one stick of 16GB DDR4 memory which is hindering the overall performance by some degree. As always, a memory in dual-channel mode is a better choice.

The MSI GF63 Thin is about as cheap as gaming laptops get, and for the price you get a capable machine that’ll handle some important scenarios. It handles everyday esports and has the processing power for everyday computing. The keyboard is decent, and the latest MSI is lighter than any competitor out there. Elsewhere though, the MSI GF63 struggles. Other laptops offer more gaming and processing power. If you’re happy to spend a little more, the Asus ROG Strix G16 offers the latest hardware (Intel Core i7-13650HX, RTX 4060 GPU), a bolder screen, better battery life, and a more robust, feature-packed enclosure. Overall, the MSI GF63 Thin is slim, light, and handles 1080p gaming fine – and it isn’t very expensive. It’ll do the job if you’re looking for a laptop for a combination of work and play without going far from a power source. Ultimately, the latest MSI GF63 Thin 12VE-066US is a step up from entry-level rigs, and it won’t leave you with any regrets.
