Nvidia has just officially announced the desktop version of the RTX 5060, but it will still take a while until the first laptops with the mobile version of this new GPU hit the store shelves. For bargain hunters, that's not much of an issue, since RTX 4060-powered machines like the MSI Thin 15 will probably be a better deal for the foreseeable future.
Thanks to substantial discounts, these gaming laptops are now cheaper than ever, as illustrated by Walmart's latest offer for the aforementioned MSI Thin 15. To be more exact, the largest American retailer has marked the 15-inch notebook down by 30%, which results in an intriguing sale price of $699 including free shipping.
This price applies to the configuration with an Intel Core i5-13420H and Nvidia GeForce RTX 4060 dGPU with 8GB VRAM. Additionally, the MSI Thin has expandable 16GB DDR4 memory and a rather small 512GB SSD. The arguably biggest caveat is the Full-HD IPS display, which has a refresh rate of 144Hz but won't be particularly bright or colorful.
It's reasonable to assume that this is the exact same 144Hz panel found inside the MSI Thin GF63, which we thoroughly reviewed earlier this year. We only measured a peak brightness of roughly 250 nits and incomplete sRGB color space coverage. Overall, this is obviously a budget-focused notebook with a chassis made entirely out of plastic, so it's best-suited for gamers who are looking for the best bang for their buck in terms of graphics performance and don't want to spend more than $700 on a RTX 4060 gaming laptop.
