Casio has been on a roll lately, with many new models such as the GBX-100 and GBA-950 series surfacing in leaks. Now, it appears that the Japanese timepiece manufacturer may be quietly rolling out another UK-exclusive G-Shock, and this one plays up the contrast. Dubbed the DW-5600BBR-1, the model will reportedly be a part of a possible new "Black and Bold Red" series, with a stark red LCD against a matte black resin shell.
At first glance, this looks like a variant of the DW-5600U series, likely borrowing the same module as the DW-5600UUB-1. The BBR-1 sticks with the classic square form, and retains the typical 20-bar water resistance, EL backlight, alarm, timer, and chronograph functions. The five-year battery estimate and biomass plastic strap used here are also consistent with current eco-conscious 5600U models.
What’s different here is the LCD. This unit swaps the usual grey screen for a deep amber-red display that pairs sharply with the blacked-out casing and buttons. From the images, even the red accents on the dial and face seem darker and more muted than previous "inverse LCD" releases - this gives the watch a toned-down but dramatic look. While it does come off as very appealing, some users will likely have trouble reading the dial in bright sunlight.
So far, only a UK launch seems to be on the cards, with G-Shock Japan or US portals out of the loop. Whether this will expand to other regions or remain a limited colorway isn’t confirmed yet. However, the use of "Black and Bold Red" in the name suggests that Casio could introduce more models in this sub-series down the line, similar to past thematic lines.
