Further details about the upcoming Casio G-Shock GBA-950 watch have been leaked. This new model was rumored earlier in April, with images leaking shortly afterwards. Now, details about the size and functionality of the wearable have been shared.
According to Japanese media outlet Mynavi News, there will be three versions of this G-Shock watch: the GBA-950-7A (white), the GBA-950-1A (black) and the GBA-950-2A (navy). It will measure 48.5 x 43.9 x 16 mm (~1.9 x 1.7 x 0.6 inches) and weigh 53 g (~1.9 oz). One upgrade over the older GBA-900 is said to be improved bezel structure and enhanced band fit.
The report also indicates that, similar to the GBA-900 series, the GBA-950 watches will allow users to track their steps and distance travelled. The latter feature likely relies on GPS from a linked smartphone, but Casio has yet to confirm this. Other tools include an auto-lap feature and measurements like running time, calculated running pace, interval time, and estimated calorie burn.
Thanks to Bluetooth connectivity, you will be able to link the watch to your smartphone, where you can use the Casio Watches app to view your activity log. Plus, the battery-powered hybrid watch is expected to run for two years, and an LED backlight should help you read the display in low lighting. The Casio G-Shock GBA-950 watch is thought to be launching in Japan in May, priced at ¥ 25,300 (~$177). For context, older GBA-900 watches are priced at ¥ 18,700 (~$131). It is unclear whether or when this model could arrive in other markets like the US, the UK or the EU.
