Lenovo brings Intel 10th gen "Comet Lake" to ThinkPad X1 Carbon, X1 Yoga, T490, and X390
While Intel's 10nm Ice Lake ULV CPUs are still nowhere to be found in upcoming ThinkPad configurations, the newly announced 10th generation Intel Comet Lake CPUs have found their way into the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 7th Gen, X1 Yoga 4th Gen, X390, T490, Lenovo announced in a press release today.
In addition to the X1, X1 Yoga, X390, and T490 getting Comet-Lake CPU configurations, the budget-oriented ThinkPad L series L13 and L13 Yoga received slimmer and lighter designs as well as and brighter displays.
ThinkPad aficionados (especially those who recently bought a new X1, X1 Yoga, X390, or T490 with the existing Whisky Lake) are going to be wondering what benefits Comet Lake might bring to the line-up. We can't say for sure until we've benchmarked and compared the two, but Intel says performance on Comet Lake could be up to 16 percent faster than Whisky Lake. Most interesting for many users is likely the addition of a 6-core 12-threaded Comet Lake SKU at 15/25W. Getting that kind of potential power in the most ultraportable ThinkPads could be tantalizing — providing the cooling solutions are up to par.
Lenovo states that the new Comet Lake configurations should be available from their website starting in September and October of 2019, depending on the market.
