Last year, Acer's TravelMate X514 offering was an ultramobile, lightweight laptop catering to professionals on the move. This year at CES 2020, Acer is expanding the TravelMate lineup with the TravelMate P2 and TravelMate P6 with improvements to build quality, internals, and overall performance.
Acer TravelMate P2
The Acer TravelMate P2 comes in a total of four variants — the P214 (14-inch display) and P215 (15.6-inch display), which are further available with or without NVIDIA MX230 graphics. The TravelMate P2's chassis is MIL-STD-810G-compliant and offers a choice of Intel Comet Lake-U processors up to the Core i7-10510U, up to 32 GB of RAM, and up to 512 GB PCIe SSD and 1 TB HDD. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi 6, LTE Cat.6, and Gigabit Ethernet apart from USB 3.1 Type-C, USB 3.1 Type-A, HDMI, Gigabit Ethernet, Nano SIM slot, and an SD card reader. Models with the HD display and SSD sport a 48 Wh battery that is touted to last up to 13 hours (12 hours in the case of FHD options).
The Acer TravelMate P2 will be available in January in EMEA and China starting from €599 and RMB 4,499, respectively. North American availability is expected from February for a starting price of US$699.99.
Acer TravelMate P6
The TravelMate P6 is a Project Athena device made of a magnesium-aluminum alloy construction that weighs just 1.1 kg and is geared towards discerning mobile professionals, who demand additional features and security. The TravelMate P6 is MIL-STD-810G and 810F-compliant and comes in four variants — the P614-51 and P614-51T, which are again available with or without NVIDIA MX250 graphics. The TravelMate P6 comes with CPU options up to the Intel Comet Lake-U Core i7-10510U. There are several RAM configurations available in both soldered, and a combination of soldered and expandable options.
The P614-51 and P614-51T differ primarily with respect to their displays. The P614-51 features a 14-inch IPS display that can cover 100% sRGB while the P614-51T offers a similar display with added support for multi-touch. Further, the variants with discrete graphics, the P614-51G and P614-51TG, support a larger LTE band coverage with Cat.12 600 Mbps download speeds while the non-G versions are limited to Cat.6. Rest of the specifications are more or less similar across all variants.
The TravelMate P6 also offers a fingerprint reader and an IR camera for Windows Hello-based authentication. The webcam comes in a choice of HD or FHD offering with a built-in physical shutter for added privacy. Depending on the configuration, either a 45 Wh or a 60 Wh battery can be availed.
The Acer TravelMate P6 will be available in January in China starting from RMB 9,999, and in February in EMEA and North America starting from €1,099 and US$1,149.99, respectively.
