Lenovo has not only announced a refresh of some existing ThinkPad models with the new Comet Lake CPUs. The biggest PC manufacturer of the world has also unveiled two completely new models, both of which are part of the affordable ThinkPad L series.
The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 and the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga both target students as well as large business customers. They share a common screen size (13.3 inch), but they differ in terms of design: The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 is a classical clam-shell Laptop, while the ThinkPad L13 Yoga is a convertible with 360-degree hinges and a touchscreen & pen as standard features. Logically, the ThinkPad L13 is the direct successor of the ThinkPad L390, while the ThinkPad L13 Yoga is the follow-up to the ThinkPad L390 Yoga.
Compared with their predecessors, the new models contain the newer Intel Comet Lake processors with up to six-cores. They are not just a CPU refresh though, as Lenovo has also reworked the design of the compact L series ThinkPads.
The new models are slightly thinner, lighter and more compact. Also, both now feature the mechanical USB-C-based ThinkPad dockingport as well as a Smartcard Reader. These two important enterprise features were not present on the older models. Last but not least, the ThinkPad L13 now optionally features a brighter FHD touch-screen. On the flip-side, it seems like the ThinkPad L13 line loses it's upgradeable RAM capability, as Lenovo will offer 16 GB of soldered memory as the maximum amount of RAM. The older ThinkPad L390 models could feature up to 64 GB of RAM, thanks to the two RAM slots.
The Lenovo ThinkPad L13 and the Lenovo ThinkPad L13 Yoga will both be available in October. The ThinkPad L13 starts at $749, while the ThinkPad L13 Yoga will cost at least $919. They will be available in black as well as silver.
