Launching before the end of Summer, both the 15.6-inch ThinkPad P53 and 17.3-inch ThinkPad P73 can each be configured with Quadro RTX 5000 graphics for desktop-class performance. NVMe SSDs and three-year manufacturer warranty will come standard across all configurations.

Leaked over a week ago, Lenovo can now confirm the existence of the 15.6-inch ThinkPad P53 and 17.3-inch ThinkPad P73 mobile workstations to replace last year's ThinkPad P52 and ThinkPad P72, respectively. In contrast to the thinner and lighter ThinkPad P1 series, the P53 and P73 are more proper desktop replacements with their higher specifications and additional port options.

The ThinkPad P53, ThinkPad P73, and ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 will all share similar CPU options up to the octa-core Core i9 series. Instead, the major internal difference separating the P53 and P73 from the P1 Gen 2 will be the Quadro RTX 5000 GPU as the P1 Gen 2 will not offer anything beyond the Quadro T2000 which offers no ray-tracing or AI acceleration.

The larger chassis designs of the P53 and P73 also allow them to carry higher capacity batteries than the ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 (90 WHr vs. 80 WHr) with full-size RJ-45 ports. Nonetheless, the P53 will have the exact same display SKUs as the ThinkPad P1 Gen 2 including the option for 4K UHD OLED.

Performance should be significantly faster than last year's ThinkPad P52 as that model was limited to the Quadro P3200. The new P53 chassis will be slightly thicker as a result.

The ThinkPad P53 will launch in July for a starting price of $1799 followed by the ThinkPad P73 in August for a starting price of $1849 USD. The announcement comes at the same time as the reveal of the ThinkPad P1 Gen 2, ThinkPad P43s, and the ThinkPad P53s.
