Newegg is currently hosting a sale on the Huawei MateBook D for just under $500 USD down from the initial price of $630. As opposed to the MateBook X series, the MateBook D series consists of the manufacturer's entry-level offerings for more cost-conscious consumers.
What makes this deal notable is that the MateBook D offers many of the same staple features of a flagship MateBook X but for essentially half the price. The narrow side bezels, think profile, and primary SSD, and 1080p display are yet to be common attributes for laptops retailing under $500. The AMD Ryzen 5 2500U processor in particular is comparable to an Intel Core i5-8250U or i5-8265U as found on most Ultrabooks today.
The wild card, of course, is Huawei's turbidity in the global market. Microsoft has already pulled Huawei laptops from its stores, component manufacturers have cut ties, and even Huawei itself is unsure how it will proceed in the laptop business. Needless to say, you may want to consider different warranty options as manufacturer warranty and even Microsoft security updates could all be on the chopping block one to two years down the line.
