At CES 2019 in Las Vegas, the PC manufacturer Lenovo announced two new models of its vaunted ThinkPad business laptop line, specifically of the high-end ThinkPad X1 line: The Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7 and the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 4 Convertible laptop were shown and announced with a summer release date. To be more precise, both were announced to be available in June 2019.
Five months later, both new Lenovo ThinkPad laptops are orderable now at Lenovo's own web-shop. The Chinese PC manufacturer has released the model numbers for the resale models as well, which means that resellers will stock both laptops very soon.
The ThinkPad X1 Yoga 2019 and the ThinkPad X1 Carbon 2019 both feature 8th gen Intel processors of the Whiskey Lake series, with the vPro Intel Core i7-8665U as the fastest choice. This processor is accompanied by up to 16 GB LPDDR3 memory and up to 2 TB PCIe NVMe SSDs in the upgradeable M.2 2280 format. Neither features a dedicated GPU, as both are mainly targeting business executives and other office users.
Like their more affordable siblings of the T series like the Lenovo ThinkPad T490s, both the X1 Carbon 7th Gen as well as the X1 Yoga 4th Gen feature 14 inch screens with numerous display options. New for this year is a low-power FHD (1,920 x 1,080) screen as well as a HDR 4K UHD (3,840 x 2,160) LCD with up to 500 cd/m² of brightness. Apart from the new screen options, a major focus of the new models is the sound, as both feature a quad-speaker system with Dolby Atmos. Also, the new X1 Carbon 2019 features an optional Carbon fiber weave material for the lid, while the new X1 Yoga 2019 is the first ThinkPad that is completely made out of aluminum with a unibody construction.
The ThinkPad X1 Yoga Gen 4 is now available starting at $1,629 in the USA, while the base model of the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 7 costs $1,499. The most affordable model includes an i5 CPU, 8 GB RAM a 256 GB SSD and the low-power FHD screen in both cases.
