Lenovo Legion Y700 (2023) aka Legion Tab: Potential global release date and disconcerting price point emerge for upcoming 8-inch Android tablet
Android tablet fans in China have been lucky enough to get their hands on either the Lenovo Legion Y700 or Y700 (2023) over the last few years, whereas those seeking a decent 8-inch Android tablet elsewhere have either been starved of choices or had to resort to buying the Y700 gaming tablet from AliExpress or GizTop. However, as we recently reported, it seems the slate is finally coming to the rest of the world as the Lenovo Legion Tab. The device is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 SoC with RAM amount starting at 12 GB for the global Legion Tab variant. A selling point is the display, which has a gaming-friendly 144 Hz refresh rate.
But the product specifications reference (PSREF) provided by Lenovo does not include a release date or a price tag. In regard to the former, a potential buyer in Germany shared their interaction with a Lenovo sales agent on Reddit, claiming that they were told the Legion Tab Android tablet is expected to be released in that particular country “at the end of April”. If this is true and accurate, then it is likely the renamed Legion Y700 (2023) will also be available in other key markets, such as the US and UK, at around the same time. The tablet has been seen as a decent rival against the popular iPad Mini 6, available on Amazon from $469.
What could be worrying for those who have literally waited years for a new high-specced 8-inch Android tablet is the potential Legion Y700 (2023)/Legion Tab price tag. As shared in another Reddit post, a variant of the tablet sold by NEC, a Japanese company that has joint ventures with Lenovo, comes at a high price in Japan. Two configurations of the Lavie Tab T9 are offered: one with 8 GB RAM + 128 GB storage and one with 12 GB RAM + 256 GB storage (this is the model shown in Lenovo PSREF). The former is priced at 98,780 yen and the latter at 109,780 yen. This roughly equates to $672/€615/£525 for the 8 GB model while the 12 GB tablet price is approximately $747/€684/£583.
For the sake of reference, the 12 GB/256 GB Lenovo Legion Y700 (2023) is priced at 2,399 yuan in China, which is worth $334/£261/€306 at the current exchange rate. It seems likely that Lenovo will choose to place the global Tab price tag somewhere between these two extremes from Japan and China, hopefully toward the lower end.
