Lenovo Legion Go: New gaming handheld rumoured to feature 8-inch display and AMD Ryzen 7040U APU

Lenovo is rumoured to have developed another gaming handheld, nearly two years after details about a cancelled Legion Play emerged online. In summary, it appeared that Lenovo cancelled the Legion Play at the last minute, with the company seemingly making preparations to unveil the Android and Snapdragon 720G-based gaming handheld at MWC 2023. Subsequently, prototype units surfaced and were tested by the likes of ETA Prime and Taki Udon.

According to Windows Central, Lenovo has now pivoted to developing a Windows-based gaming handheld called the Legion Go. Reportedly, the Legion Go utilises AMD Phoenix APUs, which AMD sells as Ryzen 7040U APUs or the Ryzen Z1 and Ryzen Z1 Extreme in the case of the ASUS ROG Ally. It remains to be seen whether AMD's Ryzen Z1 series will see another outing in other devices though, or whether it will remain an ASUS exclusive.

Additionally, Windows Central asserts that the Legion Go features an 8-inch and 1,920 x 1,080-pixel display. In other words, the Legion Go has a 16:9 aspect ratio like the ASUS ROG Ally, albeit probably with larger case dimensions. Other details remain unknown for now, including the device's design. While Windows Central adds that the Legion Play 'could give us a hint' as to the looks of the Legion Go, it has not implied to have seen any prototype units of the latter. A release date remains a mystery for now too, with Windows Central stressing that it is unsure if the Legion Go will ever make it to market.
