Japanese consumer electronics company Mouse has unveiled a new 981 g laptop with a 12.2-inch display. Dubbed the X2, the laptop is powered by AMD APUs paired with up to 32 GB DDR5 RAM

Mouse Computer, a prominent Japanese brand, has introduced a new lightweight AMD-powered laptop. Dubbed the X2, the laptop weighs in at just under a kilo and sports a 12.2-inch 1200p display.

At its core, the laptop will be powered exclusively by AMD APUs. Options include a Ryzen 5 216, Ryzen AI 5 340, and Ryzen AI 7 350. The entry-level Ryzen 5 216  APU features a six-core setup consisting of two Zen 4 cores and four smaller Zen 4c cores. In terms of raw performance, the chip should be on par with a Ryzen 5 8540U

The Ryzen AI 5 340 is a much more common chip, belonging to the 'Krackan Point' family of APUs. This Zen 5-based SoC also sports a six-core setup, but it consists of three full-fat Zen 5 cores and three more Zen 5c cores.

This specific APU, according to multicore benchmarks, should be on par with an Intel Core Ultra 7 165H CPU and slightly more powerful than a modern Intel Core Ultra 5 325 CPU.

Finally, the Ryzen AI 7 350 APU packs an 8-core setup consisting of four Zen 5 cores and four Zen 5c cores. The AI 7 350 APU is a lot more powerful than the AI 5 340 APU and comes in close proximity to the Core Ultra 9 185H CPU in multi-threaded and synthetic benchmarks.

The aforementioned 12.2-inch display features a resolution of 1920 by 1200 and covers 100% of the sRGB color gamut, according to Mouse. A 180° hinge is also on offer.

As mentioned earlier, the laptop weighs in at just 981 g and measures in at 27.7 x 21 x 1.9 cm or roughly 10.9 x 8.2 x 0.75 inches.

A 60 Wh battery is present, as is a half-terabyte NVMe M.2 SSD, gigabit LAN, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 5, a healthy array of ports including USB Type-A, HDMI, and microSD, as well as a 2 MP webcam with support for Windows Hello.

The laptop's 12.2-inch display features a resolution of 1920 by 1200 and a claimed 100% coverage of the sRGB color gamut.

Pricing and global availability

The AMD Ryzen AI 5 and Ryzen AI 7-equipped variants of the Mouse X2 laptop are already on sale on the company's official e-store, priced at:

  • ¥239,800 or ~$1,545 for the Ryzen AI 5 variant with 16 GB RAM and 500 GB storage
  • ¥259,000 or ~$1,670 for the Ryzen AI 7 variant with the same amount of RAM and storage

It is worth noting that the laptop ships with a single-channel configuration, and customers can take advantage of its unoccupied SODIMM slot to expand its RAM up to 32 GB (Corsair 16 GB DDR5-5600 stick currently $229 on Amazon).

While Mouse does not typically launch its products in the global market, international customers can always choose to go the import route.
