Invincible VS gets trailer for creator-written Story Mode

One point of contention with Invincible VS has been its heavy focus on Viltrumite characters, but the recent Story Mode trailer reveal has finally contextualized that as a story-driven choice. As it turns out, Invincible VS boasts a wholly-original story written by the team behind the show, tackling a rather-feasible scenario where Omni-Man leads a Viltrumite invasion of Earth. There are some spanners in the works, though, including game-original character (and element manipulator a la The Last Airbender) Universa and a storyline involving some kind of alternate dimension that may double as a way for the team of heroes to get stronger.
The Story Mode itself also has intriguingly good production values for a fighting game, opting for full voice acting and motion capture instead of the mostly-static, sometimes text-only Story Modes of past fighting games. While it's hard to say how good the final result will actually be based off of limited information, the graphical fidelity of the game and dynamic cutscenes so far do look surprisingly promising for what's presumably a low-to-mid budget tie-in fighting game for the show.
In addition to a Story Mode headed by the team behind the largely-successful (though also frequently-criticized) Invincible show on Prime Video, the game will include an original soundtrack from electronic music duo The Glitch Mob. As previously covered, the development team behind the game is also filled with alumni best known for its prior work on Killer Instinct, and impressions of the Open Beta veered positive from players who enjoyed that brand of technical push-and-pull fighting games.
For players interested, Invincible VS is currently available for pre-order and launches with cross-platform multiplayer for Xbox Series X/S, PlayStation 5, and PC on April 30th, 2025. A limited-run Amazon-exclusive Collector's Edition is also available for PlayStation 5 that includes a Steelbook case, collector's box, Year 1 Character Pass and Deluxe Edition cosmetics. Other Collector's Edition bonuses include a mini reprint of Invincible #1, four Keepsake trading cards, art cards, a developer Thank You letter, and a printed controller layout card.
