Drova – Forsaken Kin is set in the eponymous land of Drova, a dark region filled with dangerous creatures and ancient ruins, separated from the rest of the world by a wall of eternal fog. The game is presented from an isometric perspective in a gloomy pixel-art style. Its premise is clearly inspired by Gothic – and that influence is also reflected in the gameplay.

Instead of modern quality-of-life features, the focus is on exploration, dialogue and organic progression. Combat takes place in real time and requires precise timing, stamina management and learning enemy attack patterns. Enemies do not simply scale with the player, meaning that taking the wrong path can quickly prove fatal. Additional activities include hunting, fishing and cooking.

As in Gothic, a large part of the appeal lies in the slow progression from a weak nobody to an experienced adventurer. The handcrafted world largely does without quest markers, instead relying on hints from dialogue and the player’s own observations.

The German gaming magazine PC Games praised Drova for its rewarding exploration, well-designed quests and vibrant fantasy world. The strong Gothic influences were highlighted positively, though they may also be a drawback for some players. The game is clearly aimed at Gothic fans – anyone looking for a modern action RPG with extensive convenience features may not find what they are looking for here. In the end, the editorial team awarded the game a strong score of 8.5 out of 10.

The verdict from the Steam community is even more positive: 94% of over 9,000 user reviews recommend the game. On Metacritic, the RPG holds a Metascore of 78 and a User Score of 8.5.

First 34% discount on Steam

Drova – Forsaken Kin was developed by German studio Just2D and released in October 2024. The action RPG usually costs around $25 on Steam, but the current 34% discount lowers the price to $16.49 until April 30. According to SteamDB, previous discounts had topped out at 25%, most recently in mid-March. The current deal therefore marks a new all-time low. On the Steam Deck, the game is rated as “Verified.”
