In Kingdom: New Lands, players take on the role of a ruler riding through their realm on horseback. They collect coins, recruit wanderers as subjects and invest resources in defenses, production buildings and armies. By day, the kingdom is expanded; by night, it must be defended against greedy creatures. Unlike most survival strategy games, everything unfolds along a horizontal plane. Attackers come from the left and right, so defensive structures must be placed carefully.

The game’s main appeal lies in discovery. New units, merchants, statues, mounts and other upgrades are not explained. GamingTrend describes the core gameplay as easy to understand but tactically demanding. Because knowledge gained in one run can be used immediately in the next, the game also offers strong replay value. At the same time, the lack of explanations makes failed attempts inevitable, which may not appeal to everyone.
