Intel Arc B770: Top-spec Battlemage GPU launch reportedly delayed
A recent leak effectively confirmed Intel wants to continue releasing desktop graphics cards this generation. We got our first glimpse at the mid-range Intel Arc B580 with 12 GB of RAM and 30 Xe cores. However, that might be the most powerful Battlemage dGPU this time around, if a new leak from Moore's Law is Dead is accurate.
Tom's sources suggest Intel's top-spec Arc B770 will not launch anytime soon. It was rumoured to feature 16 GB of VRAM and compete with Nvidia's GeForce RTX 4080. While not explicitly cancelled, the project seems 'doomed' as of now. Even if Intel were to salvage the Arc B770 now, it would take at least a year for it to come to fruition because it is yet to tape out.
Another source tells Tom the Arc B580 will be difficult to come by after launch. So far, very few AIBs have expressed interest in manufacturing Intel's GPU, of which there seem to be only two of this time. The Arc B580 will likely be joined by an Arc B380 with 8 GB of VRAM, both of which face stiff competition against RDNA 4 and Blackwell.
There's no word about their laptop counterparts so far, but Intel might sit this generation out given the poor response Alchemist received. Even if it doesn't get a dedicated GPU variant, Battlemage will continue to live on as an iGPU with Panther Lake and other Intel laptop offering, albeit in a reduced capacity.
