Insta360 has launched the Luna Pro 8K gimbal camera soon after the recent release of the dual-camera Luna Ultra. The single-camera model outputs 8K30p Dolby Vision videos, 37MP photos, and spherical panoramas from a 1-inch sensor fitted with a f/1.8 20mm lens co-developed with Leica.

Insta360 has launched the single-lens Luna Pro 8K gimbal camera in China following its recent launch of the similar, dual-camera Luna Ultra 8K gimbal camera (reviewed by Notebookcheck here) worldwide. Its 1-inch camera and f/1.8 20 mm lens were co-developed with Leica, a renowned 35 mm film camera maker.

The Luna Pro offers users a convenient gimbal camera that can output highly stabilized 8K 30p videos or 37 MP images, with up to 4x digital zoom and a variety of image styles by Leica. Its controls allow the user to pan the camera across a wide range and rotate around its center axis while capturing photos and videos, including 8K Dolby Vision video, 4K 30p vertical selfies, 4K 120p slow-mo videos, and 360° immersive spherical panoramic photos.

For professional creators, the Luna Pro supports filming in 10-bit I-LOG mode with up to 14 stops of dynamic range, with native Blackmagic DaVinci Resolve import compatibility for color grading and editing. The company also notes that ordinary creators can leverage AI editing features in the Insta360 app to quickly output creative shots for posting to social media.

The camera begins shooting in vertical mode by simply pulling down the back cover to uncover the camera or in horizontal mode by simply rotating the display. All users can detach the 2-inch OLED remote control display from the gimbal to preview and film one-person shots from up to 20 m (66 ft.) away. At the same time, Insta360 describes how Deep Tracking 5.0 AI technology enables the gimbal to automatically frame and follow subjects, while wind-noise reduction and voice-clarity technologies enable cleaner 48 kHz, 32-bit AAC audio recordings.

The 218 g (Moonlight White model) Luna Pro measures 52.78 × 155.7 × 38.47 mm (2.08 x 6.13 x 1.51 in.). The camera has a runtime of up to 240 minutes, according to the company, while recording to 47 GB of internal storage or up to 2 TB of external storage provided by optional microSD cards.

The Insta360 Luna Pro is available in China in Star Black or Moonlight White starting at 3,399 yuan (~$500) for the standard package, which includes accessories such as a case and wrist strap. Readers elsewhere can buy the Insta360 Luna Ultra (sold here on Amazon) or wait for its worldwide launch.
