Insta360's new feature will soon let you create 3D scenes out of your videos

After launching the Luna Pro globally, Insta360 has now announced a new feature called Spatial Capture. The new feature is scheduled to roll out to users in the US on September 28, allowing creators to turn standard 360-degree videos into fully walkable 3D environments directly within the Insta360 app. The update will be available via a dedicated tab in the app and will support the X6, X5, and X4 Air cameras.
Spatial Capture uses 3D Gaussian Splatting technology to convert flat 360-degree footage into interactive digital scenes. Traditional 3D capture methods usually require creators to slowly walk around an object or room to record every angle manually. Because 360-degree cameras record in all directions at once, that deliberate scanning process is unnecessary. Users simply need to record up to two minutes of standard 360 video and submit the footage for generation inside the app.
Once submitted, the video is processed in the cloud, taking approximately one to two hours to render. Users can close the app while the conversion runs and will receive a notification when the 3D scene is complete. Once ready, the digital space can be navigated using touch controls, a virtual joystick, or the smartphone's built-in gyroscope. Creators can also map custom camera paths through the rendered space and export the result as a standard video or share it as an interactive web link that opens in any browser.
Insta360 is offering Spatial Capture as a free software update for existing camera owners rather than restricting it to new hardware. The service includes up to four free 3D scene generations per month, offering a practical tool for real estate tours, event coverage, and virtual travel experiences without requiring additional equipment.
