New 8K Insta360 gimbal camera launches with 1-inch sensor and detachable OLED display

Insta360 released the Luna Pro in China in late August 2026, and now, the company has brought the 8K gimbal camera to the global market. It's a scaled-down version of the Luna Ultra that we recently reviewed, coming with a single-camera setup instead of a dual-camera one.

At the core, it's the same 1-inch camera that Insta360 used as a primary sensor of the Luna Ultra. That is, it has the same f/1.8 aperture with a 20mm equivalent focal length. While there's no telephoto camera, the brand claims that the gimbal camera can offer 2x lossless zoom.

The 1-inch sensor is paired with a Leica Summicron lens, which promises strong low-light performance and great details in both photos and videos. The Luna Ultra held up pretty well in our tests, especially in low-light conditions, and as it's the same camera, the same level of performance is expected from the Pro.

Speaking of which, the Luna Pro can capture videos at up to 8K with a maximum frame rate of 30FPS, while at 4K, it can go up to 120FPS. In terms of photos, the gimbal camera can take captures at up to 37MP. There are options to take clips and stills in different ratios, and most importantly, it has support for 10-bit I-Log.

Regarding stabilization, the company states that the 3-axis setup can keep captures smooth and steady, and the AI-powered features are said to further enhance the stability of the videos. There's a 2-inch OLED display, and this touchscreen can be detached from the main chassis, just like on the Luna Ultra, and it's powered by the same 210mAh battery.

As for the main gimbal, it features a 1,550mAh battery, which is also the same as the Ultra, and Insta360 says that a full charge can offer up to 4 hours of runtime (45W Iniu 10K power bank curr. $29.68 on Amazon). Other highlights include a total of four microphones, a 4x HighRes Zoom feature, and Leica color profiles and cinematic profiles baked into the camera gimbal.

Price-wise, the Insta360 Luna Pro is slightly more affordable than the Ultra, with the Standard Bundle costing $669.99. It's available in Cosmic Black and Stellar White.
