HoverAir Versa: A DJI and Insta360 alternative combining camera and drone

We’ve covered HoverAir several times in the past and recently had the chance to test the HoverAir Aqua—a waterproof drone—even while foilboarding. HoverAir’s products differ from typical camera drones; they are best understood as flying action cameras. With the HoverAir Versa, the manufacturer introduces a versatile system designed to combine a compact gimbal camera and a drone into a single device, potentially eliminating the need to buy two separate gadgets.

The Versa functions as a handheld module equipped with a 3-axis gimbal for image stabilization and a small display. Its main selling point: according to HoverAir, the handheld camera attaches to a drone body with a single click. The resulting setup remains relatively compact and features integrated rotor guards to minimize the risk of damage or injury. HoverAir’s promotional material suggests the Versa is primarily aimed at beginners seeking a straightforward all-in-one solution.

In addition to automatic subject tracking, the drone leverages AI to suggest optimal camera positioning. A particularly unusual feature is its ability to autonomously generate 3D models of its surroundings—likely intended for indoor environments. The HoverAir Versa calculates these 3D models by stitching together multiple images rather than relying on LiDAR technology. HoverAir has not yet released specific technical specifications or pricing details.
