DJI Osmo 360 II officially launched with these 10 upgrades
After the Insta360 X6 (available here on Amazon US) closed the gap to the first DJI Osmo 360 camera just a few hours ago by also offering two square 1/1.1-inch sensors and 8K50 panoramic recording, DJI is following up on August 13 with a second version. The downside for now: Unlike the Insta360 X6, the DJI Osmo 360 II has only been officially unveiled in China at the moment. While we expect a global launch (maybe without the USA) soon, DJI has not yet announced any international launch plans, so it remains unclear how long DJI fans will have to wait for the Osmo 360 II in other parts of the world.
Here are the 10 upgrades of the DJI Osmo 360 II
Visually, the 360-degree camera has hardly changed, as was already known from leaks and teasers. The changes are primarily under the hood. According to the Chinese product page and the launch video (see below), DJI has primarily integrated the following improvements:
- Interchangeable lenses: Unlike the first DJI Osmo 360, users can now replace scratched or broken lenses themselves.
- It’s unclear whether the 1/1.1-inch sensors have been replaced, but according to DJI, the camera now achieves a dynamic range of 14.5 stops instead of the previous 13.5 stops. (In D-Log M, it remains at 13.5.)
- Night shots can also be captured in 8K60 thanks to AI Super Night View 2.0.
- Instead of a maximum of 8K50 for 360-degree footage, the camera now supports up to 8K/60.
- Speaking of recording modes: 4K/240 slow motion for 360-degree videos and 4K/120 for single-lens videos are available.
- Like the Insta360 X6, 16K time-lapse recordings are now supported, instead of 8K as before.
- The video bitrate is now 220 Mbps instead of 170 Mbps (600 Mbps in 16K time-lapse).
- The battery capacity has increased from 1,950 mAh to 2,150 mAh.
- For 360-degree photos, 120-megapixel HDR photos are now supported.
- Minor improvements such as a bidirectional magnetic mount design, NFC Quick Connect, and software updates like a tracking mode
Price in China
In the Chinese DJI Store, the Osmo 360 II is available at the same price as the first model, starting at 3,300 yuan (424 euros, US$490). This gives us hope that, unlike the Insta360 X6, there will be no price increase in markets like Europe either. The older DJI Osmo 360 remains available in China but is now being sold at a discount.
