Huawei has reportedly patented a version of its Mate 70 smartphone with what might (literally) be the coolest version of that smartphone's camera hump to date. The design could have certain advantages over pre-existing devices with the same hardware features such as the RedMagic 10S Pro or Oppo K13 Turbo.

The premium Android device OEM RedMagic pioneered the concept of the active-cooling smartphone years ago, although Oppo purports to have brought it into the mainstream with its new mid-range K13 Turbo series.

Other brands are now projected to get in on the same game with their own fan-equipped handsets in the near future - Huawei included, according to a new leak.

That company apparently intends to do things a little differently, according to the patent it has already filed on the subject.

It describes a new version of the Huawei Mate series' signature round camera hump made of several layers, one of which looks like the grille for an active spinning fan.

Accordingly, it is much larger than that of the RedMagic 10S Pro or Oppo K13 Turbo Pro (in which the fan is more or less the same size as that of a single smartphone camera's lens), which Huawei could tout as a killer edge for a real-world device with this design.

The potentially innovative component may also be attached to "an internal air duct", like the ROG Phone 7 Ultimate.

As with many other similar devices (predicted or otherwise), the patent's design is thought to address the ever-growing demand for cooling in smartphones with more and more powerful internals.

There is no word as yet as to when Huawei might start to develop or sell this unique-looking active-cooling smartphone.
