Reviews for the Huawei MatePad SE
The Huawei MatePad SE is an inexpensive tablet for home use. The low weight and the metal chassis cannot hide the fact that buyers have to live with the limitations of all current Huawei devices. Our detailed review reveals whether we can still recommend the tablet.

Huawei MatePad SE is a good tablet that can be used for various everyday tasks: from work to family multimedia entertainment. MatePad SE can be a great tablet for a child, especially since it can play games, but you’ll have to help with setup and installation. Not bad performance, not bad display and quality assembly add pluses to the personal rating of the device. Frankly weak side I consider the camera. And the lack of Google services… It turned out that you can live without them. Not a bad family tablet for work and entertainment not for all the money in the world. If you are not frightened by the lack of Google services, you can safely consider it as an option for purchase.

The MatePad SE 10.4 is hardly a solution for everyone. But it does have something that will help it win a niche in the market – great ergonomics and a cool screen, so it will be a handy solution as a tablet for study or work. The outright weak cameras don’t really matter when choosing this type of device, but the not-so-best battery life does undermine the chances of success for the Huawei MatePad SE 10.4. Oddly enough, despite the lack of Google services, I agree to give the tablet a pretty high score for its software. That’s because the Harmony OS 3 shell is very user-friendly, well-designed and glitch-free. This is what makes the tablet tear apart the competitors in the slightly lower price segment. And it beats the top competitors at the expense of price. So that is the formula for success among a wider range of consumers. The MatePad SE 10.4 is hardly a solution for everyone. But it does have something that will help it win a niche in the market - great ergonomics and a cool screen, so it will be a handy solution as a tablet for study or work.

The MatePad SE is a fairly good offering in the Philippines, as this entry-level tablet covers all the basics one looks for. It improves on the MatePad T10s, especially with its use of a more capable Snapdragon 680 processor that helps both perform better with general productivity work and in making the most out of its battery.

Well, at a price point of around ten thousand Philippine pesos, I’d say it’s for everyone. It’s specifically for anyone who wants or needs a tablet at a very affordable barrier to entry. Who isn’t this for? This isn’t for the power users, the people who use tablets as laptop replacements, or do a lot of productivity work on a tablet. But for those who want a simple tablet to leave in the kitchen to look-up recipes and instructional videos while cooking, maybe something to lend to the kids when they want to play some games in the car, or just simply an IPS display dedicated for consuming media. The Huawei Matepad SE is good enough for you, and should be your minimum standard.

The latest to join the Huawei family is none other than the Huawei MatePad SE. Simply put, this is definitely a good looking tablet with fantastic build quality and finishing. While there are certainly areas where the tablet does not feel as premium compared to the more expensive MatePad tablets, it is still acceptable for a budget tablet as the design and build quality here is above and beyond other budget tablets currently in the market. In terms of its design, the Huawei MatePad tablets have the same design aesthetics as the MatePad 10.4 and MatePad Pro 10.8. Just like the rest, the bezels here are thin and uniform with the corners and displays being rounded off. In addition, the sides are also slightly curved.
The main difference in the design of this MatePad SE as compared to the rest would the location of the front camera, power and volume buttons. This model has the power, volume buttons and 2MP front camera located on the horizontal side of the tablet. As for its display, this MatePad SE has a plastic frame that separates the glass from body. As for the back, there is one long edge where the 5MP camera is that has been made of plastic that extends to the side. While it is undeniable that the plastic parts does make this tablet feel less premium as compared to the all metal and glass construction used by the other MatePad tablets, still this tablet is far from feeling cheap as the design is definitely beautiful and the build quality is rather solid.
As for the screen, it has a resolution of 2000 x 1200 (225PPI). The main downside of this screen has to be the auto-brightness which tends to make the display slightly dimmer as compared to other MatePads which seems to look brighter at the same brightness level. Therefore, the workaround would be to adjust the brightness manually which is not a big deal though as it can just be kept at high brightness. Apart from that, there is also a 3.5mm audio jack and two sets of speaker grilles. In addition, there is also a single USB-C 2.0 charging port. In terms of its performance, the overall performance of the tablet is quite smooth and lag-free with the Snapdragon 680 processor. Simply said, gaming is possible as long as the game is not heavy on 3D graphics such as the Genshin Impact which might make the tablet lag so badly. So, in simple terms, this tablet is definitely not a gaming tablet. It is also worth mentioning that the Huawei MateBook SE is available with 3 to 4GB RAM and 32/64/128GB storage. Apart from that, storage expansion is possible with the included micro SD card slot. In a nutshell, it is a great tablet to be explored, depending on the need and preference of the user.

Only some 3D games with very low demands are playable with these cards.

This is a standard display format for tablet computers or small convertibles. You see more on the screen than on a smartphone but you can't use big resolutions well. On the other hand, mobility is not a problem.
