Huawei Mate 60 display tipped for lateral move to Dynamic Island-style punch-hole
Huawei may have caused some bemusement when it released a Mate 50 Pro with a practically retro physical notch for its otherwise up-to-date 120Hz AMOLED display. Its successor, on the other hand, is now predicted to replace this noticeable bezel divot with something that is much more modern, yet marks a return to tradition at the same time.
The Mate series is in fact no stranger to double-wide punch-holes, as exhibited in models as recent as the 40 Pro. Huawei has tended to tuck these dual selfie camera cut-outs into 1 corner of the display - however, it is said to be front and center in the upcoming Mate 60 series.
This just might have something to do with an extra added ToF sensor for improved facial recognition. However, according to prominent Huawei leak enthusiast The Factory Manager's Classmate, the OEM might risk backlash if it has made this switch purely for the sake of keeping up with Apple and its Dynamic Island - especially if the software support isn't there to match.
Even if it does, the HarmonyOS take on the new selfie camera type may still have to prove more unique than the iOS version.
