Rumor | Huawei Mate 60 camera hump, display specs and new party trick revealed
The prolific Digital Chat Station leaks account on Weibo has started to post messages that pertain to yet another upcoming device, slightly cryptically described as the "M60 medium cup". Presuming that the Huawei Mate 50 E is getting a second-gen successor, this term most likely refers to the vanilla Mate 60 instead.
With a alleged "~6.7-inch 1.5K OLED display", it might indeed prove a pretty direct replacement for the standard Mate 50. The two generations of Huawei flagship are also slated to have pretty similar dimensions, meaning that it will be hard to tell them apart from the front - unless the vanilla 60 gets an ominously Apple-like selfie camera punch-hole upgrade, that is.
However, turn to the new 'Mate 60 render' and the putative smartphone's supposed design upgrades get more apparent. It might still have triple XMAGE-branded rear cameras - however, they are re-arranged into a ring shape that, while suspiciously similar to that of some Honor X-series smartphones, is much cleaner than the 50-series' 2x2 configuration - however, more elaborate alternatives for the final production run for this or other 60-series variants are still on the table, apparently.
The Mate 60's rear shooters themselves may also be in line for some improvement, reportedly including a "new" main sensor and a "dark light periscope telephoto" lens. It may be in line for improved audio with dual speakers, one of which might fit into the top-mounted earpiece and another in a grille moved to the right of the bottom edge. Finally, Huawei's next vanilla flagship smartphone might bring some IR blaster fun to the Mate series soon.
