The 80 series is tipped to emerge as Honor's next-gen crop of premium mid-range Android smartphones. Now, one of their latest leaks seem to hint that their displays might follow a trend set by the new iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max. Meanwhile, the rear cameras in at least 1 variant might fall short of another.

The Honor 80 series is currently believed to improve on its 70-series predecessors with spec bumps that might go all the way to a combination of the Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 processor and a 200MP camera in its top-end Pro+ variant. Then again, the leaker Digital Chat Station has downsized these expectations somewhat in their latest predictions for the devices.

Despite the mention of "relatively large" camera upgrades in this new Weibo post, the highest resolution mentioned is 160MP rather than 200MP. Set against this slightly underwhelming new projection are assertions of "dual 50MP" cameras for the premium mid-rangers' front panels.

The potentially resulting pill-shaped punch-hole for selfie cameras is far from alien to the Honor x0 series; then again, it is possible that this feature might migrate to a central orientation in 2023. Should this be the case, mobile tech fans will have the influence of Apple and its new Dynamic Island to thank for that.
