Huawei P40 Pro Plus: P40 flagship with 100x zoom
For the most part, there are only minor differences between features of the Huawei P40 Pro Plus and the P40 Pro. By contrast, they are being offered at vastly different price points - the P40 Pro can be purchased for 999 Euros (~$1142), whereas the P40 Pro Plus costs a staggering 1399 Euros (~$1599). In return, the P40 series' flagship offers zoom capabilities that almost no other smartphone can match.
The 50-MP main optics (wide-angle, f/1.9, OIS), the 40-MP ultra-wide-angle lens (f/1.8) and the 3D depth information sensor are identical on the P40 Pro Plus and the P40 Pro. However, the 12-MP telephoto lens of the P40 Pro has been replaced by two telephoto lenses on the P40 Pro Plus: An 8-MP zoom camera (10x optical, f/4.4, OIS) and an 8-MP telephoto lens (3x optical zoom, f/2.4, OIS). Thus, the camera setup on the back consists of 5 camera modules in total.
Thanks to its 10x optical zoom, the P40 Pro Plus is able to capture very high-quality pictures at the respective ranges and the optical image stabilizer ensures that objects remain in focus. Furthermore, users have access to a 20x hybrid and an up to 100x digital zoom. However, at the maximum zoom level, a flat surface or a tripod is required for good results.
The transition between zoom steps is smooth - the zoom slider can be moved continuously from the wide-angle setting all the way to 100x enhancement. Convenient extra: At higher zoom levels, the camera app displays an additional window. It shows the entire scene as well as the part of the picture that is being magnified.
