Honor has now confirmed that the Magic Vs launch event will also serve to unveil successors to its current premium mid-tier smartphones, the 70 series. The OEM has also now gone ahead and revealed how these devices (currently thought to consist of an 80, an 80 Pro and an 80 Pro+) will look ahead of their launch.
The resulting teasers might split mobile tech fans down the middle, as Honor has patently swam right out after Apple into Dynamic Island waters with the 80 series display's new centrally-oriented, pill-shaped punch-hole selfie camera. Whether this feature will have an influence on the devices' build of MagicOS or not remains to be seen.
On the flip side, the 80 and its putative siblings may disappoint some spectators in that the ubiquitous double-barrel rear camera hump will persist into yet another generation. On the other hand, Honor has collaborated with contemporary artist Timmy Yip on its esthetics this time around.
The Hong Kong-based designer has made some arguably solid suggestions, the best of which include the conversion of the goggle-like camera housing into a figure-of-8 (or an infinity symbol, depending on your perspective) using a metallic accent.
The rest of the rear panel is also now finished in glass treated to display a potentially more appealing pattern in at least 1 clean, pale blue shade.
Nevertheless, Honor's latest announcement may also be the latest nail in the coffin of the top-end Honor 80 variant's odds of becoming the OEM's inaugural 200MP camera smartphone: if that were the case, why make them an afterthought during the debut of a top-end phablet with an upgraded foldable design?
