Xiaomi has now finally unveiled its latest mid-range challengers, the Redmi Note 12 series, in China. The lineup includes four models, of which the most attractive will likely be the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus, thanks to its hardware and pricing.
The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus sports a 6.67-inch FHD+ 120 Hz AMOLED, with a peak brightness of 900 nits and 10bit support. Admittedly not the most premium panel but adequate for mid-range applications. Under the hood is MediaTek's new Dimensity 1080 chipset, aided by UFS 2.2 storage and LPDDR4X RAM.
Camera-wise, the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus packs a punch, thanks to its 200 MP main camera. This makes the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus only the third smartphone with a 200 MP camera after the Motorola Edge X30 Pro-cum-Edge 30 Ultra, and the Xiaomi 12T Pro. The sensor is the new ISOCELL HPX with a 1/1.4-inch physical size and 0.56μm native pixels. After 16-in-1 binning, the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus outputs 12.5 MP images, with 2.24μm pixels behind the process. In any case, that sensor is aided by an 8 MP ultra-wide shooter with a 119-degree FoV, a 2 MP macro lens, and a 16 MP selfie camera. There's no mention of OIS, sadly.
Some other features of the Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus include NFC, a 3.5mm jack, a 5000 mAh battery, and 120 W charging. The Redmi Note 12 Pro Plus will be available on pre-orders starting today. Pricing is pegged at CNY 2,099 (US$290) and CNY 2,299 (US$320) for the 8/256 GB and 12/256 GB SKUs respectively, although early adopters get a CNY 100 discount.
