HongMeng OS could debut on the Honor Smart Screen TV

Huawei has just announced that its first large-screen device will in fact be sold by Honor, and will be called the Smart Screen TV. However, the company was less clear on how this new product would work and allow users to interact with it. Therefore, at least some of its already strikingly large pool of pre-order customers may have assumed that it is an Android TV device. 

However, a new report in the South China Morning Post alleges that Huawei will in fact install an in-house OS on the Honor Smart Screen at launch. This new potential leak is based on the word of sources "familiar with the situation". It has led to speculation that the software in question is the long-awaited, much-hyped HongMeng OS.

Conflicting reports have discussed HongMeng's potential status as Huawei's proprietary smartphone OS, developed in the event the OEM ultimately loses access to Android licenses. However, considering certain remarks made by a Huawei official concerning how light this OS actually is in terms of coding, its use in TVs may be more plausible.

Thus far, we know that Honor's Smart Screen TV will be powered by the new Honghu 818 SoC for big screens, and have a pop-up camera like those seen in some 2019 phones. Its status as an Android product (or not) should be confirmed at its August 10, 2019 launch.
