Home Assistant recently released a new update for its app for Apple devices. This is a companion app for the open source smart home automation software. Version 2025.3 is a more significant update, mirroring some of the features of Home Assistant 2025.3. It follows the 2025.2 update in February, which added the option to open a page in an external browser and a shortcut to switch between servers.
Firstly, Home Assistant app version 2025.3 allows users to create Custom Widgets. You can select which smart home controls you want to display and their linked controls. Plus, if you agree to beta testing, you can try the ability to view the status of your smart home device within the widget. Customers can find guidance on setting up a custom widget in the documentation shown on the associated configuration screen.
Another new feature is support for Assist LLM streamed responses. This means that users can watch the answer generation in progress, rather than waiting for the entire response to be formulated. On top of this, the Assist voice assistant will now resume recording if the generated response requires further user input. It is unclear whether or when a version of this update will be available for Android smartphone users; this app was last updated in early January 2025.
