SpaceX will be upgrading all of its satellite Internet devices later this year, from the Starlink Mini Kit to the Flat High-Performance dish for corporate customers.
Insiders have divulged that it will try and lower the production costs of the Starlink mini dish while at the same time offer upgraded performance, and the same will go for the Standard Kit.
The move might have something to do with another rumor, that SpaceX will enter the era of gigabit-level satellite Internet download speeds, and will have to develop the devices to match the new V3 satellite constellation capabilities.
Starlink Gen 4 router specs
In order to take advantage of the new satellites that will provide more capacity per beam and bring up to 2 Gbps download speeds alongside lower latency, SpaceX will also introduce new Starlink Gen 4 routers.
One of those is marked with the internal model number UTR-251 according to the FCC filing, so it could be quite the generational jump from the current Starlink Gen 3 router that is denoted as UTR-231. While the Starlink Gen 4 router specs still purport Wi-Fi 6 (802.11ax) speeds, there is a wider frequency range supported, suggesting faster downloads and more stable connection via new spectrum coverage.
The new Starlink Gen 4 router design schematics indicate that it will have a more space-saving form factor and might be a part of the Starlink Mini Kit refresh, as its specs show that it will require much lower power input compared to the current Gen 3 router.
As for the Starlink Gen 4 router price and release date, SpaceX could detail those soon since the new Flat High-Performance dish is reportedly already in production, so the Starlink Mini and Standard kits refresh shouldn't be far behind.
