Asus has unveiled a new router called the ROG Strix GS-BE18000. This is a powerful and likely premium-priced device that supports the latest wireless standards. Specifically, it's a WiFi 7 router that operates across all three frequency bands, meaning 2.4GHz, 5GHz and 6GHz. Maximum data speeds of around 18,000 Mbps are advertised, but as usually, this is the cumulative number that includes all aforementioned frequencies.
To be more exact, the 2.4GHz band supports up to 688 Mbps, the 5GHz band maxes out at 5,764 Mbps, while the 6GHz band can hit up to 11,529 Mbps under ideal circumstances. While WiFi 7 and the 6GHz band in particular are not yet supported by all smartphones and tablets, laptops and desktop PCs can be upgraded via a corresponding WiFi 7 card (from $49 on Amazon).
That being said, the ROG Strix WiFi 7 router sports a total of eight internal antennas. Asus is obviously targeting gamers with this new product, even though the external design can be described as rather conservative. There's a prominent ROG logo, but no "cyborg" design elements like those on the GT-BE19000. The ROG Strix GS-BE18000 is further equipped with seven Ethernet ports and one WAN port for the modem. All ports offer 2.5 Gbps.
USB 3.2 Gen 1 is included as well, and the router supports both wireless or wired mesh networks. Lastly, the ROG Strix router can prioritize gaming traffic and create different SSIDs for occasions such as LAN parties. Unfortuantely, the ROG Strix GS-BE18000 is not available for purchase just yet.
