Netgear has added a new router to its lineup. The Nighthawk RS100 carries an official price tag of $149 and is already orderable and listed as in stock at the company’s official online store. The RS100 is advertised as a WiFi 7 router, which it ultimately is.
However, prospective buyers should take a look at the precise specifications, which reveal that the new Netgear router isn’t exactly fast and offers a speed of up to 3.6Gbps when combining the transfer rates of the 2.4 and 5GHz bands. Therefore, the Nighthawk RS100 does support WiFi 7, but not the superfast 6GHz frequencies. Whether or not this is a deal-breaker likely depends on the individual use case.
Either way, the router supports 4K-QAM modulation for low latencies, which is particularly relevant for gamers. According to the American manufacturer, the RS100 can cover an area of about 1,450 square feet, although this probably depends on the layout of the house or building. Anyhow, two antennas are built-in.
The router further offers a total of five Ethernet ports, one of which is used to connect a modem. This port supports up to 2.5Gbps, while the other ports max out a one gigabit. Last but not least, the affordable WiFi 7 router measures 2.6 x 4.8 x 0.7 inches and can be set up with a VPN. A 30-day trial version of Netgear Armor is included and provides real-time protection against cybersecurity threats and other useful features.
