Google releases May 2024 update for Pixel devices with Bluetooth LE audio and camera performance improvements

Google is rolling out a new update for Pixel devices from the Pixel 5a onwards. Also available for the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet, the new update is said to offer Bluetooth LE audio and camera performance improvements for multiple devices.

Google has started pushing a new update to Pixel devices, excluding the new Pixel 8a (curr. $499 on Amazon). As usual, the company is bringing its product stack onto the latest Android security patch. Although Google does not reveal the changes that the May 2024 security patch brings to the likes of the Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro, full details can be found on its associated Security Bulletin post.

In a community post, Google explains that the new update should already be available to download in some capacity. However, the update's rollout will be distributed in phases throughout this week and next week, depending on your device and whether it is carrier-locked. For reference, the May 2024 update will arrive with the following build numbers:

In the same post, Google highlights that it has made two overarching changes within AP1A.240505. On the one hand, the update should improve Bluetooth LE audio stability and performance. Supposedly, this change should apply to all Pixel devices eligible for AP1A.240505. On the other hand, the same update should contain a Pixel 8 and Pixel 8 Pro-specific fix aimed at addressing camera performance when recording videos 'under certain conditions'.
