Garmin ships new bug fixes and improvements to flagship smartwatches but with major ECG change
Garmin is well and truly underway with its next beta cycle for the Fenix 7 series. To recap, the company pushed Beta Version 16.10 to the smartwatch series last week following a six-week hiatus. Now, the company has issued Beta Version 16.11, an update that contains plenty of improvements despite its iterative revision number change.
For reference, Garmin bundled 24 changes within Beta Version 16.10. By contrast, its successor includes 9 improvements, which are as follows:
- Fixed flashlight quick control getting stuck on the watch face.
- Fixed issue where date format setting would not sync down from Garmin Connect during device setup.
- Fixed issues with lap list populating incorrectly.
- Fixed possible crash due to WeChat Pay.
- Fixed possible crash when undoing automatic multisport transitions and then saving the activity.
- Fixed potential issue where total timer and lap timer would not match on the auto lap banner.
- Improved '5 Minute' backlight timeout setting to 'No Timeout' (non-AMOLED only.)
- Improved Daily Suggested Workout watch face data field to show "Dismissed" if workout isn't performed (MARQ 2 Athlete only).
- Misc. improvements to Find My Phone.
Additionally, Garmin's forum post notes that Beta Version 16.11 upgrades eligible smartwatch's GPS software from v7.02 to v9.05. However, the company has not specified what changes the jump from v7.02 to v9.05 brings. Also, Garmin stresses that it has disabled ECG functionality on Fenix 7 series smartwatches running beta software. For some reason, it has decided to restrict this feature to stable updates or Release Candidate beta builds.
Beta Version 16.11 should be available to download now, albeit not on the Tactix 7 or MARQ Aviator Gen 2. Instead, the update can picked up for all Fenix 7 models, as well as Epix 2, Enduro 2, Quatix 7 and most MARQ Gen 2 smartwatches. Please see Garmin's forum post for more details and installation advice.
