Garmin rolls out Q3 update for bike computers with dozens of new features and improvements
Garmin is rolling out a Q3 update for the Edge 540, Edge 840, Edge 1040 and Edge 1050 bike computers. The release began earlier in September with stable software version 24.18. However, Garmin has since issued version 24.19, resolving a memory issue that could cause the devices to crash.
The change log lists almost 40 changes for the GPS bike computers. Highlights include alerts for road hazards like potholes reported by cyclists and the ability to flag any that you encounter. There are improvements to the GroupRide feature with new awards and climb competitions. Maps can now display surface type, with alerts for upcoming unpaved sections. On top of this, there is support for Wi-Fi map downloads on the device, and the Garmin Share tool has been added, allowing you to share course and waypoint data with other compatible Garmin devices.
You can find a screenshot of the complete change log below. Software version 24.19 can now be downloaded to the Edge 540, Edge 840, Edge 1040 and Edge 1050 via Garmin Connect mobile app or Garmin Express. The update arrives around three months after the previous stable update, version 21.18.
