Garmin continues to introduce new features for its smartwatch product stack at a break-neck pace. Typically, the company focuses on furnishing Beta Program participants with new updates. However, it has changed tack in recent weeks to deliver new stable updates for various models. To that end, it has announced its June 2024 Feature Update for multiple smartwatches and cycling computers, including the Forerunner 165 (curr. $249.99 on Amazon).
Based on the graph below, Garmin has made its June 2024 Feature Update available for the Forerunner 165 through Forerunner 965, as well as the older Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 955. Additionally, the Fenix 7 series and its peers are eligible, as are the Venu 3 and Vivoactive 5. Moreover, Garmin has included the Edge Explore 2, Edge 540, Edge 840, and Edge 1040 cycling computers within the same Feature Update rollout, despite the lack of feature parity with their smartwatch counterparts.
Specifically, the company's cycling computers only share the addition of pin drop navigation with their smartwatch siblings. By contrast, its Find My Phone functionality and turn point enhancements are exclusive to its smartwatches, as is the Garmin Messenger app. For reference, Garmin confirmed in the same press release that it has already begun rolling out its June 2024 Feature Update, adding that it will 'continue to do so over the coming weeks'. Unfortunately, it has not provided any software build numbers to that effect.
