Garmin has announced Public Beta Version 19.09 for some Forerunner 255 smartwatches. This is the first update in the 19.xx cycle, following the public release of software version 18.23 in March. The forum post regarding the new beta update suggests that the rollout has yet to begin and does not indicate when all units will receive the software.
Beta Version 19.09 brings a new Jet Lag Adviser glance and support for Garmin Messenger with both an app and a glance. There is a tool which allows you to use GPS to trace your phone should you lose it while working out. Plus, heart rate dynamic source switching has been added to optimize the data collected by intelligently selecting the watch’s OHR sensor or your chest HRM as the source. The software also fixes problems with music controls, incoming call vibration notifications and the syncing of the order or your activity profiles.
You can now manually download the update by going to the Main menu > Settings > System > Software Update > Check For Updates. Garmin notes that this will only work with models that support Wi-Fi - the Forerunner 255 Music and the Forerunner 255s Music. It is unclear whether or when a version for the Forerunner 255 and Forerunner 255s non-music variants will arrive. If you want to join the Beta Program, you can sign up via Garmin Connect. Public Beta Version 19.09 is also available for the Forerunner 265, Forerunner 955 and Forerunner 965 wearables.
