The Black Shark Ring has launched in China. The Xiaomi sub-brand unveiled the smart wearable on social media earlier this month. Now, customers in China can purchase the Black Shark Ring at JD.com in China for 599 yuan (~$83).
The Black Shark Ring provides insights into biometrics like heart rate, blood oxygen level, HRV and body temperature. You can also use the wearable to track your sleep health, exercise like running and cycling, step count and menstrual cycle, with analysis viewable in the accompanying app. Another feature of the smart ring is the long press and swiping touch controls, which can remotely take photos or restart a video on your connected phone. A single-click gesture can be customized to launch an app or tell you what time it is, amongst other functions. Plus, an integrated LED light can alert you to a notification or remind you to breathe. A listing on the App Store suggests that the gadget is compatible with smartphones from various manufacturers.
An earlier social media announcement suggested that the smart ring could last for 180 days. However, the wearable contains a 16 mAh battery for four to six days of battery life. This is lower than the five to seven-day maximum runtime of the Oura Ring Gen3 Heritage. The 180-day estimate includes recharging the device via the larger power pack in the case. The metal wearable is thin at 2.2mm (~0.09 inches), weighs 4.4 to 5.4 g (~0.16 to 0.19 oz) and is waterproof to 5ATM. Only the Moonlight Silver version is offered at launch, with a Blazing Night Black Red model arriving later. Whether or when the Black Shark Ring could launch in other markets like North America or Europe remains to be seen.
