Oura has announced two new features for health monitoring, which aim to provide users with further insights into their own health and the influences of their lifestyle.

Oura has announced two new features that will be available to users of its smart rings in future. Specifically, these involve the measuring of cardiovascular age and cardio capacity. While cardiovascular age is more of a general health function, Oura's cardio capacity is aimed at athletes in particular.

Cardiovascular age is also assessed in relation to chronological age, meaning that users are informed whether their sporty lifestyle puts them ahead of their peers, for example. According to Oura, the measurement or calculation of this parameter is also based on measured values obtained via photo-plethysmography, which includes the estimation of the stiffness of arteries.

Cardio capacity, in turn, is based on maximum relative oxygen saturation. This parameter indicates how much oxygen the body can utilize under very high to maximum stress and is a value - which only increases slowly - that allows for the estimation of one's own endurance. Oura states that a high cardio capacity also stands for a more powerful cardiovascular system, so Oura's cardiovascular age and cardio capacity are closely correlated.

Oura also intends to provide tips in the app to users who want to improve certain aspects of their fitness, such as cardiovascular age. Other tips could involve improving sleep or personalised physical training.
