Oukitel OT5S: New Android tablet with Widevine L1 and mobile comms
The Oukitel OT5S is a new Android tablet for beginners and people who are looking for a tablet for browsing and media consumption rather than productivity uses. The 12-inch display has a resolution of 2000 x 1200. Widevine L1 certification is advertised, which means that content from streaming service providers such as Prime Video and Disney+ can be played in high quality. Corning Gorilla Glass 5 protects the screen from scratches and other kinds of damage.
A Unisoc Tiger T606 is installed as the SoC, which is not a particularly powerful one; the physical RAM is 8 GB and can be expanded using a type of swap file. Android 14 is installed on the 256 GB of internal storage. Accordingly, users benefit from an up-to-date operating system, but the supply of updates is unlikely to meet the standard of flagship tablets from larger manufacturers.
The four installed speakers are likely to provide good audio playback, while the main camera has a resolution of 16 MP. The tablet weighs 560 grams and is said to be only 7.5 mm thick. A battery with a capacity of 8,250 mAh is installed, which is likely to result in a runtime of up to 10 hours when playing videos.
Using the tablet with a suitable keyboard should be possible, and pen input is also advertised, but it is unlikely that this will be able to differentiate between pressure levels. Lastly, 4G connections to two mobile networks is also supported.
The model is currently not available, but the manufacturer lists a price of $220.
