Garmin has refreshed the Tactix 7 series, nearly 18 months after the company introduced its first Tactix 7 smartwatches. To recap, the Tactix 7 series arrived in Standard, Pro and Pro Ballistics editions that retailed for between US$1,099.99 and US$1,599.99. While Garmin distinguished the trio in various areas, they featured the same core hardware, including a transflective memory-in-pixel (MIP) display.
As its name suggests, the Tactix 7 AMOLED swaps Garmin's trusty MIP technology for an AMOLED equivalent. As a result, the Tactix 7 AMOLED has a more vibrant and arguably more versatile display than other Tactix 7 models. Also, the new variant offers a 454 x 454-pixel native resolution, compared to 280 x 280 pixels for all other Tactix 7 SKUs.
Moreover, the Tactix 7 AMOLED supports an always-on display (AOD) mode like many other modern smartwatches. However, activating this feature drops battery life from 31 days to 11 days. Incidentally, leaving AOD and GPS activated reduces estimated runtimes further to 58 hours.
Other areas remain unchanged though, whether that be 10 ATM water resistance, access to Garmin's smartwatch software suite or a sapphire display lens and a titanium bezel. It is worth noting that the Tactix 7 series is still only available with a 51 mm case size too. The Tactix 7 AMOLED is orderable now in multiple markets, including the US where it retails for US$1,399.99. Please see Garmin's website for more details.
