Garmin replaced the Fenix 7 and associated smartwatches last year with the release of the Enduro 3, Fenix E and Fenix 8 (curr. $1,099.99 on Amazon). While those trio arrived a few months ago, Garmin continues to furnish its older flagship with new features.
To that end, Fenix 7 and Fenix 7 Pro smartwatches started receiving a new stable software package earlier this week called System Software 20.16. In summary, the firmware introduced CIQ System 8 while also fixing various outstanding bugs. According to Gadgets & Wearables, the same update marks the introduction of electrocardiogram (ECG) support for the Epix 2 Pro and Fenix 7 Pro in more markets.
Until now, Garmin had restricted ECG functionality to North America and much of Southeast Asia. However, that has now been expanded across the European Union (EU). Officially, this support does not extend to the United Kingdom.
Gadgets & Wearables reports that ECG is now working on Epix 2 Pro and Fenix 7 Pro smartwatches in the UK anyway, although your mileage may vary. Please note that you do not need to update to System Software 20.16 to receive ECG access in the EU. Instead, ECG functionality should be activated after updating to a build that is Software Version 14.68 or newer. The full list of countries where ECG should work is as follows:
